Abstract

A research concerning the wind characteristics on Messina Straits has been carried out by Stretto di Messina SpA and Politecnico di Milano inside the project of Messina Bridge. For this purpose a meteo station has been collecting meteorological data since 1985 at Punta Faro near Messina. Transducers, located on the two towers of the ENEL HV transmission line between the Sicily and the mainland (fig. 1), measure wind speed and direction (SE/ZE, GILL), air temperature (TE) and humidity (ME), quantity of rain (LE), sun radiation (XE) and atmospheric pressure (PE). All the wind data useful to value the dynamic behaviour of the bridge to aero-elastic forces are preserved.
