Abstract

Abstract The wind-induced responses of the 77.6 m high Tokyo International Airport Tower have been measured in order to investigate the efficiency of the tuned liquid damper (TLD). A number of shallow circular vessels containing water and floating particles are installed in a room on the tower. The measurements were conducted during 13 months, the first half is set aside without TLD and the latter half is with TLD. The damping ratio and the natural frequency of the tower are evaluated by the random decrement technique. The damping ratio of the tower with TLD increases up to 7.6%, while that of the tower without TLD is less than 1%. Thus, the efficiency of the TLD is confirmed to be satisfactory.
