Abstract

Abstract The influence of an upstream building on the suction pressure on the roof top of a low rise building was earlier studied. This work computationally validates the original experimental results, and provides further insights on the effect of geometric modification for the tall building. The computational grid uses a boundary layer approach to capture exact conical vortex patterns. Grid refinement on a structured grid provides more information on the near wall pressure. Several models are tested numerically to find a favorable design configuration that reduces the suction pressure. Results prove that a particular modification of the roof top yields to about 30 % reduction of the mean suction pressure.
