Abstract

Assessment of wind for a particular site is gaining importance to install an appropriate wind turbine at a particular site. The Weibull distribution function is widely accepted for evaluating the wind probability using scale and shape parameter. This paper presents modeling of scale and shape parameter to assess the wind potential at a selected wind site. A case study is carried out to validate the developed model by collecting wind data over a period of year 2008 at 10m height for the wind site of BEC, Bagalkot, Karnataka, India. It is observed from the results that using the scale parameter and shape parameter of the Weibull distribution function, a choice is made for selecting an appropriate rating of wind turbine for the particular wind site.
