Abstract

The great Dr Robert Hardin Williams died in 1979. This edition of his classic textbook is the first edited by Wilson and Foster. In the tradition of previous editions contributors have been selected who are at the forefront of endocrinology, and each chapter is followed by an extensive bibliography. I would feel remiss as an endocrinologist if I did not buy the latest edition of this text as soon as it became available. However, as in previous editions, this book occasionally suffers from some disorganization and at times lacks a proper clinical focus. Important clinical topics are not always given the space and emphasis they deserve. The introduction of the outpatient thyroid biopsy has been one of the most important events in thyroidology in the last 25 years. Unbelievably, there is only one half page devoted to thyroid biopsy.
