Abstract

The OECD will soon implement a system for reporting cryptoasset transactions to tax authorities around the world, the Crypto Asset Reporting Framework (CARF), modelled after the Common Reporting Standard. Bob Michel describes how the CARF is supposed to work and explains why – following the “crypto winter” of 2022 – it may not achieve its intended purpose.
