Abstract
The novels of Wilkie Collins occupy a marginal space in the canon of English literature. Collins is all too frequently seen as a minor member of the Dickens clique or, at best, the creator of the middle-brown detective novel. However, this is to ignore his prolific and varied output. This book offers a new and fresh appraisal of the Collins novels and treats in detail many of the author's works all but ignored by the twentieth century reader.
