Abstract

A medical certificate concerning a rather serious eye condition suffered by the young W. C. Roentgen has been discovered in the archives of the German Roentgen Museum in Remscheid-Lennep. Written in French in 1865 by the Utrecht ophthalmologist Dr. H. Snellen, it suggested the idea of reporting some biographical details recorded by Ernst Wölfflin, professor of ophthalmology in Basel, about W. C. Roentgen, his friend of many years standing.
