Abstract

AbstractThis chapter presents the second part of the data discussion. It focuses on the findings gleaned through the corpus linguistic perspective on the Wikipedia talk page data. I present results from comparing the talk page discourse material to Wikipedia article page discourse material and thus identify key characteristics of Wikipedia talk page discourse. In particular, my discussion of findings centres on how the Wikipedia community is constructed and evoked in talk page discourse, how source material and Wikipedia policy are touched on in these debates and how Wikipedia editing is discussed in the data set. Finally, this chapter integrates elements from Chapters 2, 3 and this chapter. Specifically, it sheds light on how the findings from Chapter 2 regarding Wikipedia’s key characteristics may tie into Wikipedia talk page discourse.KeywordsWikipedia talk page discourseCorpus linguistic analysisWikipedia communityEditing debatesSourcesWikipedia policy shapes discourse
