Abstract
A survey of 138 pupils admitted to the Staffordshire County Council's Wightwick Hall School for Physically Handicapped Pupils during its first six years shows that: 47 percent. of the pupils had previously only received home tuition. Almost 50 per cent. admitted were cases of cerebral palsy and allied conditions. Almost half the children could be regarded as fundamentally educationally subnormal including 73·5 per cent. of all the “spastics” in the school. The problems of educating children with the dual handicap are mentioned. Over 21 per cent. of pupils required further orthopacdic operative treatment after admission. Future employment or placement after leaving school presents many difficulties.
