Abstract

Wireless medical devices are changing the health care environment at the hospital. However, Wi-Fi system has difficulty of communication due to AP interfering with each Wi-Fi device and traffic overload caused by communication through AP. To mitigate this problem, real-time data transmission system using Wi-Fi Direct, which can assure higher data-rate communication through direct communication between devices without any AP interaction, can be used in medical applications. In this paper, we evaluate performance of Wi-Fi Direct system using a test bed and compare with the conventional Wi-Fi system for real-time data transfer. It is observed that Wi-Fi Direct real time data transmission system can provide higher data rate than existing Wi-Fi system, suggesting the use of Wi-Fi Direct for high data rate medical communication.
