Abstract
Spectra of self-broadened vibration-rotation lines of the 5.3μ NO fundamental band were obtained on an Ebert grating spectrometer which had a spectral slit width of about 0.1 cm −1. The integrated absorptances of the observed vibration-rotation lines of each sub-band were measured at 300°K for different path lengths and total pressures of NO. The pressure dependent behavior of the integrated absorptances is compared with the effects expected from the unresolved Λ doubling of each line. The self-broadened half-widths and the line strengths of over 70 lines of the band were measured by using a curve of growth technique. The half-widths decrease with increasing | m | values and no measurable difference in half-widths is observed for lines of the same | m | value in the R and P branches of each sub-band. From the individual line strengths a total band strength of 122 ± 6 cm −2 atm −1 was obtained. No vibration-rotation interaction effect on line intensities was observed.
