Abstract

A wide-range equation of state for water and steam (ESWS) in analytical form is developed. The equation is valid for moderate and high pressures up to 4 × 1012 Pa, in particular, for shock-wave and static compression in a wide range of densities. Analytical dependences are obtained for thermodynamic functions, namely, isochoric heat capacity, thermal internal energy, Grueneisen coefficient, and elastic components of pressure and internal energy. In the region of high pressures and temperatures, where dissociation and ionization occur, the ESWS provides for continuous transition from equations of non-dissociated molecular state to equations of dissociated state, and then of ionized state as well, in view of disequilibrium.
