Abstract
Neurological charities and people with neurological conditions have been campaigning for several years for exemption from prescription charges for people with long-term neurological conditions such as Parkinson's Disease. There is still a perception that Parkinson's disease is a condition that only affects older people and yet there are estimated to be around 6000 people under the age of 40 years living with Parkinson's in the UK (Parkinson's Disease Society, 2007a). Although Parkinson's is more common in older people, in the UK it is estimated that, of the 10 000 people diagnosed each year, 1 in 20 are under 40 years of age.
