Abstract

In this paper, a wideband two layer slot array antenna is proposed which operates in the frequency range of 12–14.4 GHz. The lower layer of the antenna array includes narrow rectangular slots and the upper layer consist of rectangular patches shorted on the sides of the patches with via holes. The wideband operation is obtained by making two resonances. One resonance is due to radiation of the single element and the other is the effect of mutual coupling between adjacent elements. An 8 element array is designed, simulated and fabricated with good agreement between simulated and measured results.
