Abstract
In this letter, we presented a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system with wideband performance for 5G smartphone applications. Firstly, a planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) is designed to born a monopole-like mode. Secondly, an inverted-T shaped open slot is etched in PIFA to generate a loop mode and a slot mode. As a result, the antenna-element realizes a wide bandwidth of 83 % ranging from 3.3 to 8 GHz with a size of 14 × 7 mm <sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</sup> . Finally, eight such antenna-elements are arranged as an 8 × 8 MIMO antenna system. The simulated results show that the proposed antenna system has promising performances.
