Abstract

Magnetoelectric (ME) response of multilayer ferromagnetic-piezoelectric structures has been measured via a novel measurement system. The frequency spectra of the ME coefficient and the corresponding phase lag in the range from tens of Hertz to 10 MHz have been determined with high precision under the applications of a virtual multi-channel lock-in amplifier. The fundamentals of this method are based on the calculation of the cross-correlation function. Via this method, we successfully built up a magnetoelectric measurement system which can perform precise and versatile measurements without any analog lock-in amplifier. Frequency–bias mapping of ME coefficient and phase lag has also been demonstrated for a nickel–piezoelectric multilayer with the application of such a method.
