Abstract
The authors demonstrate wideband dispersion compensation of a 85 km fibre link up to the fourth-order. The second-order and third-order dispersion of a standard singlemode fibre are simultaneously compensated for by a dispersion-compensation fibre, and the residual third-order dispersion and the fourth-order dispersion are precisely equalised by a frequency-resolved programmable dispersion compensator. A dispersion window wider than 30 nm is realised, and 0.2 ps pulse trains with 22 nm bandwidth can be transmitted with small dispersive distortion.
