Abstract

Influence of ethanol and water additions into a wide gap spark chamber on dispersion and width of the tracks was studied for long time delays of high voltage pulses(τd = 2.8-50 μs). The mean square scattering of tracks in the spark chamber filled with Ne+C2H5OH was shown to be approximately five times less than in the spark chamber filled with pure neon regardless of time delay. The quality of tracks in a spark chamber filled with Ne+H2O is to some extent worse than in the case of Ne+C2H5OH but considerably better than with pure neon filling. The explanation of effects observed is given.
