Abstract

This paper presents a wide band direct-conversion receiver which consists of a buffer amplifier, a quadrature voltage control oscillator, and an image rejection mixer. The buffer amplifier is connected after the low noise amplifier to boost the RF signal and transform the single-ended signal to the balanced signals. In order to obtain the large frequency range and the linear KVCO, a 4-bit capacitors bank is used in the quadrature voltage control oscillator. Therefore, it offers wide band quadrature local oscillator signals for the receiver. The image rejection mixer composed of two double balanced Gilbert mixers and a poly phase filter is designed to transform the RF to IF signal and obtain high image rejection ratio. The integrated receiver is realized on 0.18 μm CMOS process and the die area is 2×5 mm2. The measured results show that the receiver has 10 dB conversion gain and 20 dBc image rejection ration in the frequency range 3.6 GHz to 4.3 GHz.
