Abstract

In the work, to reach the broad tunability, narrow linewidth and stable single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) output of erbium-doped fiber (EDF) based laser, the dual-ring configuration with a unpumped EDF saturable absorber (SA) is designed. Here, the C- and l-band erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) are used in parallel acting as gain medium inside the laser cavity to increase the available bandwidth for tuning wavelength. Moreover, the achieved output power, wavelength linewidth, optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR), tunability and stability of the proposed EDF laser are also executed and discussed.
