Abstract

This section addresses Malory’s most poignant displays of authorial crafting in his portrayals of the Elaynes and demonstrates that his decision to recount female experiences in unrequited love is extremely rare in English medieval romance. The focus remains on the feelings of the women rather than functioning as an opportunity to boost Lancelot’s appeal. This discussion also traces Guinevere’s movement from jealousy to compassion.
