Abstract
On thursday, july 15, 2021, when parents checked their bank balances, they found an additional $250, $300, or more, deposited. This money was the first monthly payment of the expanded and improved Child Tax Credit signed into law by President Joe Biden as a part of the American Rescue Plan. This monthly payment is the result of more than 18 years of fighting for a child allowance and finding what poverty scholars have known for very long—a fully refundable Child Tax Credit, in combination with other antipoverty measures, would reduce child poverty by 50% over the next decade.
