Abstract

A few years ago Max Beberman made what he called “a modest proposal.” While it may not have been as startling as Swift's original “modest proposal,” it still was iconoclastic. He suggested that we no longer teach long division. Perhaps the same is true for fractions in general and division of fractions in particular, and we are ready for a third proposal.
