Abstract

The Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA) and the Affordable Care Act of 2010 require insurance companies to provide parity for mental health and substance use disorders, but these laws, on the books for a decade, aren't being enforced. And insurance companies are taking advantage of this, leaving treatment centers one choice, according to attorney Matthew Lavin: to appeal until they win, and if they don't win, to sue.
