Abstract

In The Lancet, Russell Viner and colleagues1 examine trends in infant, child, and young adult mortality during a 38-year period (1970–2008), stratified by age, sex, and broad underlying cause-of-death categories. The authors used data from national death registries to compare results for the UK with those of 15 high-income countries in the European Union (member states before 2004), plus Australia, Canada, and Norway (the EU15+ countries).
