Summary

Congenital structural airway disease

Adenotonsillar hypertrophy, rhinosinusitis, subglottic stenosis, laryngomalacia Vascular rings and sling, enlarged heart or lymph nodes Foreign body, tumour Reflux, incoordinate swallow, laryngeal cleft or tracheo-oesophageal fistula. Despite the difficulties in making a diagnosis of asthma at this age, prompt diagnosis allows institution of an acute asthma plan to help families manage acute asthma attack appropriately. In Ethan’s case, this could have helped in identifying the severity of the acute attack and perhaps referring to the hospital for further management early in the course of illness. It could have allayed the anxieties of the family, as they could have been better prepared to manage an acute asthma attack. Use of a structured acute asthma plan empowers families in dealing with such emergencies
