Abstract

Introduction: In New Zealand (NZ) sport injury prevention is based on the 10-point action plan of SportSmart. One action point is injury management, particularly focusing on soft tissue treatment using R.I.C.E.D. (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation and Diagnosis). Promotion and education of R.I.C.E.D. has occurred in NZ since 1999 when SportSmart was implemented. R.I.C.E.D. has been included in education programmes for basketball, hockey, football, netball, and touch rugby.
