Abstract

This article presents an argument on the issue why poor democracies have not eliminated poverty. The argument relies heavily on the distinction between direct and indirect methods of poverty alleviation a distinction that is customary in the economic literature. The article also states reasons why an analysis of poverty should be taken seriously and pursued critically.
