Abstract

AbstractThe necessity for intensified research in the field of powder flow behavior is illustrated in this paper. It is argued that recent developments with respect to discrete element modeling, measurement techniques (AFM) and multidisciplinary approaches are particularly helpful in the understanding of powder flow behavior. However, the capability for good experimental testing is also crucial. Therefore, the development of a True Triaxial Tester will be a very important step in the advancement of the field. It makes validation of hypotheses possible and it will challenge the outcome of DEM simulations. An important research topic for the utilization of the True Triaxial Tester would be anisotropy and the effect of structure, the missing parameter in current powder flow theory.
