Abstract

This article discusses physical and mental disabilities in the workforce. The advantages that people with disabilities bring to the workforce are discussed, along with resources offered by the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) for both employees and employers. The article also discusses the Campaign for Disability Employment (CDE), a newly formed collaborative of leading disability and business organizations that launched What Can YOU Do? ‐ a national effort designed to promote hiring, retraining, and promoting people with disabilities and to dispel negative stereotypes about disability and employment. The article includes an essay remembering a colleague of the author's, John Reid, and his struggle with disabilities related to multiple sclerosis.
