Abstract
ABSTRACTPassenger air safety is on a streak, a good one. Zero accidental deaths occurred In 2017 in commercial passenger jet transportation, said to be the safest year for aviation ever. Part of that salutary record is due to the fact that airline-airport terrorism and disruptive criminality have been checked. This article discusses how the very future of commercial aviation once was threatened by air piracy and terrorism. Passenger screening made a significant contribution to safety within the airports and in the sky. These safety measures are permanent but will change as risks and controls evolve. TSA is at the forefront of these security measures, laudably so, but often poorly designed, excessively intrusive procedures and inept technology make the agency unpopular with the public, deterring some travelers from this mode of transportation.
