Abstract

ABSTRACT THE heat and moisture production of DeKalb XL layer pullets brooded from one to 49 days of age in a typically managed litter-floor house were measured. Prediction equations for sensible and latent heat production were developed. The results indicate no significant difference between the sensible heat production of layer pullets and broilers of the same mass when both were housed at typical brooding temperatures. However, the latent heat production of the layer pullets was significantly lower than that of broilers of the same mass.
