Abstract

Psychiatry has determined the scope of psychopathology for all mental health professionals, including counselors. The authors discuss the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in terms of its reductionist philosophy related to diagnosis and how an integration of frameworks may enhance the treatment process, with a goal of providing a dialectical and humanistic treatment approach.
