Abstract

ORIGINALITY in the discussion of the goals of medical schools is at best fantasy because any one who has a continued interest in medical education has been exposed to numerous treatises on this subject. Any hope of success in this assigned task resides in the technique of analysis which offers me the opportunity of stimulating constructive thoughts for those of you concerned with the future of medical education. Before entering into a critique on our educational system, it seems reasonable that we particularize first its end product, our present day physician. Many have referred to him as an LMD, the usual abbreviation for Local Medical Doctor, yet its designation for our purpose is Lost Medical Disciple—lost from the disciplines of scholarship in the adaptation to the demands of our way of life.
