Abstract
This article compares persons who were included in a research study about living with an ostomy with those who were not included. Persons not included were those who were too physically ill to be independent in care, persons with paralysis, and persons with mental illness. Research about persons with ostomies should include an ethnically diverse sample, deal with caregiver and home care needs, and investigate special populations such as those in psychiatric units, rehabilitation units, or long-term care facilities. ET nurses are challenged to participate in more ostomy-related research.
