Abstract

The paper presents an account of the ordinary christologies operating in a sample of 45 Anglican churchgoers. Ordinary christology is defined as the account of who Jesus was/is that is given by Christian believers who have received no formal theological education. The data were gathered by means of in-depth interviews and three main christologies are identified: functional, ontological and sceptical. The characteristics of each christology are described and a theological appraisal offered.
