Abstract

The new 5th Edition of the WHO Classification of Thoracic Tumours was published in 2021 updating the previous 2015 edition. While the classification of many lung tumours remain largely unchanged, the updated version places a greater emphasis on diagnostic molecular pathology and introduces specific essential and desirable diagnostic criteria for each entity. Classification based on small biopsy samples of lung cancer specimens is provided in addition to classification based on resections. For invasive non-mucinous adenocarcinomas, a grading system has been introduced based on the proportion of different histological patterns within each tumour.
