He has taught at Syracuse University and Ohio State, and is now professor of philosophy at Johns Hopkins. In addition to Understanding Whitehead (Johns Hopkins, 1962), he has written various essays on Whitehead, including contributions to Classic American Philosophers (ed. M. H. Fisch, 1951), The Relevance of Whitehead (ed. Leclerc, 1961), and Studies in the Philosophy of Charles Sanders Peirce: Second Series (ed.
