Abstract

Lichen sclerosus et atrophicus, leukoplakia, and “essential atrophy of the vulva” (which term the authors favor instead of “kraurosis vulvae”) are diseases to be considered in differential diagnosis of white or atrophic vulval lesions. Chloroquine phosphate is almost a specific remedy to relieve the pruritus in lichen sclerosus et atrophicus. Leukoplakia in early stages may respond to general protective measures, but surgical ablation may be indicated for advanced disease; moreover, malignant change must always be borne in mind.
