Abstract

Investigations on white-line in the k-absorption spectra of copper and its compounds have been made, using a modified 40 cm curved crystal (mica, 2?01 planes) transmission spectrograph of the cauchois type, and a molecular orbital interpretation is suggested for the white-line occurrence. It appears that there exists a possible correlation between the covalent character and the existence of white-line in X-ray absorption spectra of compounds. The concept of excitons and electron-phonon interaction is also discussed.
