Abstract

Medicine has been subjected to more changes in the past several years than in any other period in the history of our profession. Now comes the decision by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to change its long-standing view about the nature of residents in training. No longer primarily students, says the NLRB, residents are henceforth to be considered primarily employees under the provisions of the National Labor Relations Act.1 Is this change for the better or for the worse?Change, whether for better or worse, is always difficult.
