Abstract

Dual vocational training is an effective means of securing skilled labor for many German companies. At their foreign branches, however, they often encounter conditions and qualification opportunities that completely deviate from the German dual training model. This study examines to what extent German production companies in China, India and Mexico are trying to transfer the German dual training model or rather adapt the local context. The focus is on factors that influence the possible transfer from the company’s perspective. On the basis of theoretical guided expert interviews with representatives of German companies and other experts, the various influences are discussed. The findings show a considerable influence of national framing in the study regions. Nonetheless, in all three countries dual approaches can be identified that emerge from the creative power of companies, overcoming the local context.
