Abstract

In the good old days (that is pre-Margaret Thatcher) agricultural research was conducted by various government funded research institutions. They provided a service to UK growers for which there was no charge. This advice was unbiased and supported by sound research. Then it was decided that this was a money making opportunity and charges were introduced. This led to much of this research being funded by the industry and out went the unbiased approach.
