Abstract

FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW, I have been reading with interest many of the debates about the image of nursing on TV, particularly as portrayed in medical dramas such as Grey's Anatomy, House, etc. One of the most prominent arenas for these discussions is the Center for Nursing Advocacy's website,1 available at http://www.nursingadvocacy.org/news/news.html. This site reviews both the good and bad portrayals of nursing in all forms of media. While the “naughty nurse” portrayals always get bad press on this site (as well they should), shows such as Grey's Anatomy and House have been cited more for the lack of portrayal of any nurses, and/or the portrayal of physicians doing the work of nurses.
