Abstract

The elastic limit provides a convenient concept for the design of mechanical and structural parts which should exhibit no permanent deformation after loading and subsequent unloading. The offset tensile yield strength of a material for small offsets, such as the 0.01-percent offset, is considered to be a good approximation of the elastic limit.
