Abstract

ABSTRACT In this paper, Mendes seeks to give shape to the psychic impact of early trauma and loss through a clinical presentation of her work in terms of certain analytic themes. While her clarity in focusing on these themes is useful, perhaps it’s this very attempt at clarity which ends up bypassing the unconscious intersubjective third with its inevitable smudginess, unconscious identifications and analytic subjectivity. My discussion attempts to offer some collegial tweaking in terms of: Complicated Mourning, Shame & Guilt, and The Analytic Process.
