Abstract

Achieving high performance yet low power requirements of modern electronic systems such as communications and instrumentation demands a careful optimization of process technology, circuit design, and system architecture. Remarkable progress in sub-micron VLSI technology during last two decades has enabled us to explore innovative analog and digital signal processing techniques which were previously unrealizable. Another dimension of advance circuits and systems is flexibility. Adaptive techniques in mixed signal processing require intelligent optimization of circuit and system parameters to accommodate performance needs without compromising energy consumption. A paradigm shift from design for worst case to adaptive design is eminent. Advance circuit techniques for signal conditioning and processing, new technologies such as MEMS and innovative adaptive power management are critical tools for today's designers. In this talk, we present an overview of important role of analog and mixed signal processing and key challenges of VLSI signal processing for applications in modern electronics
