Abstract

Questionnaire data from internal auditors were examined to determine those conditions that were associated with effective whistle-blowing, i.e. resulting in termination of organizational wrongdoing. Results indicated that characteristics of the individual and organization were not related to effectiveness; situational variables and power relationships were associated with effectiveness.
