Abstract

In 1914, Toronto was one of the largest cities in North America. Already home to the Toronto MapleLeafs baseball club of the International League operated by James McCa!ery, Toronto became a target for theplacement of a major league team by the newly formed Federal League. #is article examines the attempts ofthe Federal League to establish a franchise in Toronto, as well as McCa!ery’s making Toronto a two-team townby relocating a Canadian League team to Toronto to serve as a farm club for his Maple Leafs.
